Youth Recreation Programs

Beginner Violin Lessons  

Beginner Violin Lessons are for children ages 5-10. Violin Instructor Katie will engage children and teach them various aspects of learning to play the violin. Learning to play in a supportive, creative environment makes learning fun. Intermediate/Advanced Violin  

Intermediate Violin lesson are for children and youth with three plus years’ experience. Join Katie to improve your violin skills and focus on developing the joy of music. Babysitting Course (Ages 11 – 13)  

This course is designed to teach the skills necessary to care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. There will be emphasis on safety, dealing with emergencies and first aid basics. Topics include Basic First Aid, injury prevention and the responsibilities of a mature babysitter. Students will receive a student activities book and a certificate. Students are asked to bring a doll and lunch. Space is limited to 15 participants. Youth Art  

Discover and explore the world of Art making through a variety of materials and methods. Students will learn some basic skills in drawing, painting and sculpting while being encouraged to use their own imagination and individual style. Art tools and materials are included along with the use of an apron!

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150, Arichat Tuesdays, for 6 weeks, beginning April 4 (April 4, 11, 18, 25 and May 2, 9)  

Session I (Ages 4-6): 4:30 pm – 5:45 pm, Fee: $55  

Session II (Ages 7+): 6:15 pm – 7:45 pm, Fee: $65 Instructor: Victoria Bonin-MacKenzie  

Parent & Child Sew Together (Ages 7+) This sewing class is for a parent and child team who would like to learn to sew together, creating a special time sharing a common interest and learning together. With a combination of machine and hand sewing participants will work on two projects using materials easily found around the house along with the provided material. This sewing class is for one child accompanied by one adult. Centre La Picasse, Petit de Grat Tuesdays for 4 weeks, beginning April 4 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm, Fee: $20 Instructor: Lynn Theriault  

Tae Kwon Do  

Tae Kwon Do can be taught to all ages and ability levels; whether you are a seasoned athlete or just starting out. Tae Kwon Do helps develop muscle strength, flexibility, body balance and speed in movement. Louisdale Fire Hall, Louisdale  

Children’s Beginner Class (Ages 4 – 12) 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm, Fee: $40.00 (includes belt test)  

Children’s Advanced Class (Yellow to Black Belt) 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm, Fee: $40.00 (includes belt test)  

Adult Class (13+) 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm, Fee: $40.00 (includes belt test) Sundays, for 8 weeks, beginning April 16 Instructor: Jason Doiron, 3rd Degree Black Belt 

LEGO build, create and explore (All ages)  

Kids get an experience to build and create alongside their peers as they team up to create something from concept to completion. This collaborative experience teaches the value of teamwork, communication and problem-solving. LEGOs provided. Process Art Play Group (Ages 2 – 4)  

Children are inherently creative beings that learn best about the world around them through play and exploration, and that’s exactly what process art is all about! This program focuses on the experience of creation rather than a final product, designed to invite children to take the lead in their learning experiences and explore through different materials of their choosing. Each week will offer a unique overarching theme with different mediums of art and materials to explore, but it’s children that will take the lead in this program. This is an interactive program and parents are required to stay with their kids and encouraged to engage when appropriate. Takehome packages and facilitation will be provided. Please bring clothes that can get dirty and an open-mind and be ready to get creative! Tumblebugs (Ages 3-5)  

Tumblebugs is an introductory program for basic movement and modified gymnastics that is fun, safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate for 3 ½ to 5-year-old children in early childhood settings. The consistent and progressive activity plans include both active and quiet segments with directed and exploratory learning. Tumblebugs is about fundamental movement skills that support healthy growth and development and improve physical literacy. Introduction to Gymnastics  

Gymnastics involves the performance of exercise using the bar, beam and floor. Physical strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and control will be taught. Step Dancing  

Beginner dancers can expect to learn the introductory steps involved in Step Dancing, including basic movements and steps. As the children’s experience grows, they begin to learn the reel and its components. Returning students continue working on technique and basic theory, with focus on lifting the heels, and keeping good posture. Dancers will focus on technique, posture and complete steps. Dancers who enrolled in the winter sessions and wish to rejoin are asked to register in the same class. New dancers are encouraged to join and discuss placement with Instructor Renee Samson by phoning 902-631-3322 before registering.
