Canal Landing Experience
Come visit us at the Canal Landing, where the ocean meets the inland sea! Located on a National Historic site, The Canal Landing was once the former home of Nicolas Deny’s Trading Post, a place where early settlers would trade with the Mi’kmaq. Experience Canal Landing with Kayak, Canoe, Eclipse Pedal Boards, and Bicycle Rentals, along with Drumming, Dancing and Retail. Battle of the Burgers!
Calling all Burger Lovers! Starting on Monday, July 29, you have one week to taste test the most creative and delicious burgers created by three of our local restaurants: Jiggs, The MacBouch Restaurant and Lounge, Louie’s Cosy Corner, and the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn! The competition is stiff and bragging rights are on the line. After your taste test of ALL FOUR, cast your vote at any of the three participating restaurants. Don’t forget to write your name on your ballot so you can be entered into our prize draw of $75 worth of Gift Certificates from our participating restaurants!  Deadline to vote is Sunday, August 4 at 1pm. The victorious Burger Champion will be announced at Swim The Canal!

Turning the Tides:
Celebrating 150 years of the St. Peter’s Canal! At the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, visitors can take a scenic walk along the 800-meter long canal and watch as boats transit its unique double-gated tidal lock. The welcoming staff will enlighten you as they present the history of the canal and explain the workings of the tidal lock and swing bridge. Enjoy a day of fishing off the canal walls or walk across the lock gates for an afternoon hike in the adjacent Battery Park or the nearby coastal trail. All transiting boats this year will receive a special commemorative certificate in honour of our 150th anniversary!

Teddy Bear Picnic:
Hosted by the Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre, this year’s picnic will include face painting, story time, crafts, and physical activities. Bring a picnic lunch and don’t forget your favorite teddy bear or super hero – we’ll be giving them a medical and dental check-up!

Village Scavenger Hunt:
The St. Peter’s Village Commission is hosting a Village-wide scavenger hunt. Test your directional and problem solving skills to solve all the clues while discovering St. Peter’s!

Open Mic Jam Session at the MacBouch:

Hosted by the St. Peter’s Community Club, explore three centuries of history of St. Pierre, Fort Toulouse, St. Peter’s Canal, and Nicolas Denys. Tea, coffee, and snacks provided.

MacAskill Museum Auction:
Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Museum Society, the auction will feature new merchandise, antiques, home baking, gift certificates, door prizes and bidders’ prizes.

Wednesday Night Sailboat Race
Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club and sponsored by the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn, this is a fun summer race series on the lake side of the canal in Jackson Bay.  Visiting boaters are encouraged to participate. Visitors to our community are welcome to jump on a boat and join in the fun. Show up at the St. Peter’s Lions Marina by 4:00 pm and check with boats that are preparing to race. You can also call our Commodore, Gordon, at 631-3754 and he will find you a spot on a boat, if available. After the race there is a gathering at the St. Peter’s Lions Marina to review the results.

Wallace MacAskill Cup Regatta:
Organized by the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club, this race in the Bras d’Or Lake is the signature sailboat race event in the St. Peter’s area. The race is a 25 NM race into the big lake, followed by chowder, reception and awards ceremony at the St. Peter’s Lions Marina. Register at the Marina.

Fabulous Family Fun Day
St. Peter’s Pride – Richmond Rainbow Alliance is hosting a day for the LGBTQ+ community and the people who love and support them. Pack a picnic and come out to enjoy some entertainment, fly a kite, throw frisbees, blow bubbles, enjoy a swim and dress in your pride gear. It will be fun for all ages, so please bring the little ones and show the love and acceptance that exists in our village!

Parade Party!

St Peter’s All Ages Time and Talent Competition

Swim the Canal 2019: Far from Ordinary…. Be Extraordinary.

Nicolas Denys Days includes the first “Swim the Canal” event in the world! Our sixth annual “Swim the Canal” is an extraordinary community tradition of fun, festivities and celebration. There are two swim options, enter in the world-famous Bras d’Or Lake through the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, ending at Battery Provincial Park beach on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.  You can swim the length, 800 meters or the width, 100 meters from Battery Park to the canal wall and back. All swimmers receive a towel to acknowledge their accomplishment. A special commemorative certificate celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Canal will also be received by swimmers who make it through the locks!  Spectators welcome – come cheer us on!
