St. Peter’s, NS – Amateur traditional musicians will be in their element at this year’s Music Camp on the Canal. The weekend offers a choice from over 20 workshops, delivered by some of the top performers and instructors in their genres. This year fiddle workshops are led by Dwayne Cote; blues guitar workshops by John Campbelljohn; Celtic bass and guitar accompaniment by Allie Bennet; mandolin and tenor banjo by Darren MacMullin.

Music Director Roger Stone presents Singing 101, along with Bodran and Banjo workshops – and he will put together an incredible All Star Concert featuring the instructors and a few special guests on Saturday night.

Other features of the Music Camp weekend include a jam session reception, where participants get to meet each other and their instructors on Friday evening; Band Lab, where wanna-be band members get a realistic experience in forming a band and playing a new piece in the student showcase, with coaching from our pros. A community Kitchen Racket, after the Saturday night concert brings visiting players in touch with a variety of local players and songwriters in an open-jam setting.

Early-bird registration until March 31 is only $195 for players. For non-playing travel partners we offer a great package with all the food and fun for $100. Full program includes workshops, social activities, three incredible meals, prime concert seats, and more.

Music Camp Artists

We are pleased to welcome new faculty at Camp this year: John Campbelljohn for blues guitar, Allie Bennett for bass and celtic guitar accompaniment, and Dwayne Côté for fiddle.

Guitar enthusiast Rick Belliveau had this to say after his first experience at Camp last year: “From novice to experienced musicians, Music Camp had something for everybody. Extremely well organized, workshops were invaluable, food was great, and the Saturday night concert by the workshop artists was amazing. Can’t wait to go again!”

Anyone interested can get full information on the web site, including a downloadable registration form, email contact for questions, and a list of faculty and workshop descriptions.

The event will take place in St. Peter’s from May 31 to June 2, 2013.

Music Camp on the Canal is supported with funding from the Municipality of Richmond County and the Province of Nova Scotia.
