10am – 11:15am – Gentle Yoga Classes will be held at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn in St. Peter’s (use side entrance). Mondays for 3 weeks beginning July30, from 10am to 11:15am. Fee $10.00 per class. 10am – 5pm – The Annual Surf Program at Point Michaud Beach will run from July 4 to August 21 from 10am to 5pm. Register at Point Michaud Beach during class time. Lessons cancelled on days of extreme conditions or weather. There will be no programs or rentals on Tuesdays. Wednesday Night Sailboat Race – Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club and sponsored by the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn, this is a fun summer race series on the lake side of the canal in Jackson Bay.  Visiting boaters are encouraged to participate. Visitors to our community are welcome to jump on a boat and join in the fun. Show up at the St. Peter’s Lions Marina by 4pm and check with boats that are preparing to race. You can also call our Commodore, Gordon, at 631-3754 and he will find you a spot on a boat, if available. After the race there is a gathering at the St. Peter’s Lions Marina to review the results. Location: St. Peter’s Lions Marina. Cost: Free (Donations to WMYC are welcome). Race starts at 5pm.

August 2

The Richmond County Recreation Department’s Pop Up Kids Program, will take place at the Lower River Baseball Field at Vince McCarthy Dr., and at Ecole Beau-Port Soccer Field, from 1pm to 3pm. It is lots of fun for the kids and it is a free program. So come and join in the fun.

2pm – 4pm: – Tea and Entertainment at the Wallace MacAskill House Museum. Colin MacDougall will be doing a Photography Tour.

5:30pm: – The Village Kids have Talent: For children 15 & under – all talents welcome! Hosted by Myles Davidson – his new CD will be available for purchase at the event. This show will feature singing, dancing, playing instruments, poetry, comedy acts, etc. Prizes awarded to all participants! Pre-sign up is appreciated but last minute performers are welcome! 4:30pm: – Friends of Leona Chowder: Hosted by the Friends of Leona, enjoy a delicious chowder dinner (seafood and corn chowder available) and show your support for our Cape Breton Regional Cancer Center. Enjoy your chowder in the company of friends, or if you are on the fly, get your chowder to go (order on site or call 535-2482). Supper should always be that easy…and that delicious! 6:30pm – 8:30pm: – Graveyard Tour – United Church Lakeside Cemetery: Have you ever thought of a graveyard as a place of adventure, learning and discovery? Have you ever read names and dates and wondered what kind of life the people led? Join guide Clair Rankin for a tour of the United Church Cemetery to learn about the history of our community. Location: United Church Lakeside Cemetery (DeRaymond Street). Cost: Free.

The Richmond County Recreation Department’s Pop Up program for Kids takes place at the St. Peter’s Baseball Field on Lions Avenue, from 9am to 11am and at Point Michaud Beach in Point Michaud from 1pm to 3pm. It is lots of fun for the kids and it is a free program. So come and join in the fun.

12pm – 4pm: – Join SPEDO every Friday for Deep Fried Turkey with a side of home fries and coleslaw for $10.00 in Front of Home Hardware in St. Peter’s.

The Play & Stay Café Indoor Playground: Looking for something to do with the little ones this summer, Richmond has the perfect spot to hold your children’s play dates. The Play & Stay Cafe is the only indoor playground in Richmond and offers a safe, fun filled and air conditioned environment. If it is too hot outdoors for the kids to play or to wet to go out and play, take them to the Stay and Play Cafe at the Richmond Industrial Park in Louisdale. Open for drop-ins from 9am to 4pm! The Annual Wallace MacAskill Cup Sailing Race – This is a summer highlight for the local sailing community running it’s 29th Annual Race. – The Wallace MacAskill Cup regatta: Organized by the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club, this race in the Bras d’Or Lake is the signature sailboat race event in the St. Peter’s area. The race is a 25 NM race into the big lake, followed by a reception and awards ceremony at the St. Peter’s Marina. Cost is $20.00 /Boat WMYC Members / $30.00 for Non Members. Time registration opens at 9am / Skipper’s Meeting is at 10am / Race start time TBA .

9:30am – 12pm: – Isle Madame Public Market at LeNoir Landing on the Arichat Waterfront.

Festival Slow-Pitch Tournament: Co-ed slow-pitch tournament hosted by the Royals team. Register teams by calling Marvin at 535-2137. 1st Prize $600, 2nd Prize $300! (Prize levels based on 8 teams registered). Location: St. Peter’s Ball Field. Cost: $250 / team + 2 balls. Time: Games begin at 8am

Parade Route: Begins on DeRaymond St., left onto Grenville St., left onto Argyle St. (at the Caper Gas Service Station) towards Richmond Villa, back to Pepperell Street and ending at the St. Peter’s Lions Hall. 1pm – 5pm: – Swim the Canal 2018: Far from Ordinary…. Be Extraordinary.  Nicolas Denys Days includes the first “Swim the Canal” event in the world! Our fifth annual “Swim the Canal” is an extraordinary community tradition of fun, festivities and celebration. There are two swim options, enter in the world-famous Bras d’Or Lake through the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, ending at Battery Provincial Park beach on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.  You can swim the length, 800 meters or the width, 100 meters from Battery Park to the canal wall and back. ‎‎ ‎10:30‎am: – Ride Isle Madame – ride begins at the Isle Madame end of the Lennox Passage bridge to the island.Choose a 20 km, 40 km or 60 km route to suite your ability and interest. The ride starts at the end of the bridge (parking available on the right side of the road). Ride through the countryside to D’Escousse: 10 km (20 km return). The route continues around Cap La Ronde, Rocky Bay and back to D’Escousse for lunch or beer at the new pub, the Groundswell, or for an ice cream at the yacht club on the other side of the road — your choice. Route to this point: 30 km; to return to the starting point, another 10 km, will make a total distance of 40 km. An optional detour to Arichat will add another 20 km, for a total distance of 60 km. Join us — ride together for safety and for fun! Ride leader: Micheline Guillot. Tickets: Weekend pass: $60.00, Saturday:$30.00, Friday or Sunday: $20.00, children 14 and under: free. Dry camping included with weekend pass, limited number of sites- reservations recommended. Early bird camping on Thursday: $5.00/person. Gate opens to campers on Thursday at 9am. No admittance prior to this time. 11am – 2pm: – The Coast Market will take place on Sundays at the St. Peter’s Marina at 32 Lions Avenue, St. Peter’s. Come and see Local Artisan’s Quality Products every Sunday this summer.

6pm – 8pm: Fork & Spoon perform at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn.

August 20

12pm – 3pm: – Mackerel Mondays – Enjoy Fresh Barbecued Mackerel every Monday . Location is at the entrance to the St. Peter’s Costal Trail. Enjoy Mackerel cooked on the BBQ with a side dish of homefries for only $10.00. Fishing rods will be available on location, for more information please call 902-631-3754.

7pm – Family Square Dance with live music, at the United Church Hall in St. Peter’s Admission is $5.00 a person or $15.00 for a family, children under 12 admitted free. Be there or be square!!!

6pm – 8pm: Linda & Dave Murphy perform at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn
