St. Peter’s and Richmond County Events Calendar

St. Peter’s is a natural hub from which to seek out Cape Breton activities, attractions and experiences whether on land or sea/inland sea. We are within walking distance or a short drive away from some unique Cape Breton attractions and firmly anchored among many traditions and cultures.

For information and a full list of events and happening around Cape Breton and guide books and maps for N.S., PEI, NB, and Newfoundland stop in at the St. Peter’s Visitor Information Centre. Our hours are from 9am to 6pm Monday, thru Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.

Re-occurring summer events for the summer

11am – 1pm – Starting July 1st, join Darren Campbell from Two Seas Touring as he does his historic walking tour in Battery Park and along the St. Peter’s Canal. Tour lasts approximately 2hours. Find out about the rich history of the area while enjoying the beautiful scenery throughout the park. Cost is $10.00 adults and $5.00 seniors and children. The tours will run Monday thru Sunday. 9:3am – 11am: – The Richmond County Literacy Network at 10036 Grenville Street, Unit B in St. Peter’s, will be hosting “Babies and Books” every Tuesday starting June 25th! Bring the little ones for an enjoyable morning at the Richmond County Technology Center. Fun for kids and a chance to parents to get together as well, come check it out. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to gather with their children and share stories, books, puzzles and toys together! This is a great chance to spend time with other parents and their babies.

10am – 5pm: – The 17th. Annual Summer Surf Program will take place at Point Michaud from July 2nd to August 20. Register at Point Michaud Beach during class time. Lessons cancelled on days of extreme conditions or weather. There will be no programs or rentals on Tuesdays. Please call the Point Michaud Surf Hut at 902-587- 2988 or check our Richmond County, NS Facebook page for up to date surfing conditions.

Surf Clubs: Clubs include surfboard and wetsuit, with land and water instruction. Surf Club activities will vary depending on weather and tides. Please call 902- 587-2988 for an update on surfing conditions. Kids Surf Club- Ages 8 years to 12 years (must be accompanied by a guardian). Fee $100.00. Call 902587-2988 to register or for more information.

Junior Surf Club- Ages 13years to 19 years of age Cost $120.00. Call 902-587 2988 to register or for more information.

Surf Lessons – Lessons are a half hour of equipment familiarization and land lesson, plus 1 hour of surf instruction in the water. Lessons include surfboard and wetsuit and instruction. Dates and times may vary.

Individual Lesson – Fee is $40.00 and takes place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 1:30pm to 5pm.

Group Lesson – 4 person group lesson or 4 individual lesson package fee is $120.00. The lessons take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 1:30pm to 5pm.

Wetsuit and Surfboard Rentals – Daily, from Wednesday to Monday, from 10am to 5pm. Fees (when not registered for package) – $20.00 per hour for both wetsuit and surfboard, $15.00 per hour for wetsuit only and $10.00 per hour for surfboard only. There is a lifeguard service at Point Michaud Beach, daily from 10am to 6pm from June 29 to August 25. Facilities – There are change houses, toilets and parking available. There is also a picnic area to the left overlooking the beach. Point Michaud Beach is located approximately 20kms from the village of St. Peter’s along route 247.

9am – 8pm – Canal Landing Experience
Tomorrow starts the season for the Canal Landing in St. Peter’s. Check out some of the events which will be taking place at the Landing.

Tours:

10am and 1pm: – Sweet Grass Excursion – Cost $40.00 per person. Tours run Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
If you are interested in hiking, history and learning about nature, please join us on our Sweet Grass Excursion. Walk the trails to visit historic landmarks and learn how the Mi’kmaq people harvest sweetgrass, a sacred medicine of the region’s First People.

10am and 1pm: – Traditional Medicine Demonstration tour runs Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Mi’Kmaq people have used traditional medicine for thousands of years. We will show you a variety of different plants and what they are useful for. You may even have some of them growing in your own back yards. Take a leisurely stroll to discover the medicinal plants and methods traditionally used by the local Mi’kmaq people in their day to day lives. Book you place now. Cost $40.00 per person. This is a wonderful opportunity for children ages five and over to explore their sense of creativity and create their own imaginative masterpieces in an afternoon filled with fun and art! coloring pages, play-doh and crafting supplies will be provided!!!

11am – 3pm: – Join Kiss Me Arts artists for a fun afternoon of painting rocks to show your support of Pride at 14 Toulouse Street, St. Peter’s. All are welcome and all materials will be provided including rocks. Wear something that you won’t mind getting some paint on. Kiss me Arts is located in the lower level of the Bonnie Brae Center.

You can drop off your child for a day of fun and enjoyment. Activities will include boathouse equipment, indoor/ outdoor pool, games, rock painting, golf and hiking. Those attending will receive a boathouse pass (value $10.00 to be used during the months of July and August.
